At the second highest rates of any state in the nation, it's clear that Connecticut has an energy problem. While the national average sits at 17.5 cents per kWh, Connecticut families are drowning at 28 cents per kWh. Eversource has complete control over the energy industry in many parts of the state, and we're suffering financially as a result. As your state senator, I will fight to change this system.Connecticut needs publicly-owned power grids. Seven towns (Bozrah, Norwich, Groton, Wallingford, Jewett City, and Norwalk) already have them, and the results show clear success with far lower rates than anywhere else in the state. These are nonprofit operations with a goal in mind to serve their residents, not shareholders. Competition in the free market can encourage low prices- but not when just one or two giant corporations have control over the entire market. Eversource is gouging Connecticut families of their money, and it's time we put an end to it.I want the voters of the 16th District to know where I stand on this pressing issue. Connecticut families already pay some of the highest electricity rates in the country. Buried in those bills is a “public benefits” charge that subsidizes the Millstone nuclear plant — even though Connecticut produces more electricity than we use. That extra power is sent to other states, but we are the ones paying part of the bill.Our state is already doing its part by hosting this facility. We should not also be subsidizing energy that primarily benefits others. At a time when housing, groceries, and medical bills are stretching budgets, every extra charge matters. I will work to end this unfair arrangement and make sure Connecticut ratepayers only pay for the energy and infrastructure that serve our communities.

Ending Unfair Energy Subsidies

Child care is not a luxury — it’s a necessity for working families. But right now, the cost of care can equal a second rent or mortgage payment. For some parents, especially mothers, the price tag forces them out of the workforce entirely, which hurts family income and the broader economy. The United States should lead the world in delivering the next generation of medical breakthroughs. From mRNA vaccines to treatments like semiglutide and tirzepatide, science can save lives and improve health for millions. Too often, progress is blocked by corporate interests that put profits over patients and by the current administration's political appointees who put their agendas above science.Even when breakthroughs happen, drug companies set prices so high that working families, seniors, and people on fixed incomes cannot afford them. I will fight to cap prices, allow Medicare to negotiate costs, break monopolies, and ensure our regulatory system serves patients, not corporate bottom lines.Innovation should save lives and be available to everyone.

<a href="https://www.southingtonoutsider.org/post/perry-announces-run-for-state-senate">Perry Announces Run for State Senate</a>Nearly two months after <a href="https://www.southingtonoutsider.org/post/perry-ends-1st-district-congressional-primary-challenge" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ending</a> his Democratic primary challenge for the seat held by Congressman John Larson, former Town Councilor Jack Perry has announced that he will be running to represent the 16th&nbsp;District in Connecticut’s State Senate. This race will pit him against the incumbent Senator, Republican Rob Sampson.This will not be the first time Perry and Sampson have competed for votes in the district. Back in 2020, Perry, then running as an independent with an endorsement from the Working Families Party, lost to Sampson with 46.2% of the vote, versus Sampson’s 53.8%.Connecticut’s state senate races are held every two years. Democrat Chris Robertson unsuccessfully challenged Sampson in 2022, getting 41.4% of the vote to Sampson’s 58.6%, and again in 2024, when he lost 43.4% to 56.6%.Perry, who is 36, served as a member of Southington’s Town Council from 2021 to 2025 and has been active in community service. He is the founder of a trash hauling business, HQ Dumpsters, that was sold to Plainville-based hauler CWPM in 2024; Perry currently serves as operations manager for that firm. Eversource has complete control over the energy industry in many parts of the state, and we're suffering financially as a result.Connecticut needs publicly-owned power grids. Seven towns (Bozrah, Norwich, Groton, Wallingford, Jewett City, and Norwalk) already have them, and the results show clear success with far lower rates than anywhere else in the state. These are nonprofit operations with a goal in mind to serve their residents, not shareholders. Competition in the free market can encourage low prices- but not when just one or two giant corporations have control over the entire market. Eversource is gouging Connecticut families of their money, and it's time we put an end to it.

Rent takes up more and more of each paycheck, and the dream of owning a home feels further out of reach every year. This is not just a personal struggle for families. It is a drag on our entire economy and a barrier to building stable and vibrant neighborhoods.We need to treat housing as a basic foundation for a healthy community, not just another investment market for big corporations. That means increasing the housing supply through smart development, investing in affordable housing, and protecting renters from predatory practices. It also means cracking down on corporate landlords and speculators who buy up homes and drive up prices. Everyone should have the chance to live in the community they love without being priced out.

I built my business from a high school idea and a pickup truck. I know what small business owners deal with every day. The endless paperwork. The risk of putting everything on the line. The pressure to keep going when the odds are stacked against you. And I know how many working families count on small businesses for good jobs, reliable paychecks, and a sense of community.Small businesses are not just part of the economy. The economy is not broken for everyone. It works just fine for the ultra-rich, corporate lobbyists, and the politicians who protect them. Families are working harder than ever, yet they’re falling behind. That’s not by accident — it’s the result of policies written to favor the wealthy and well-connected over regular people.We need an economy that rewards work, not just wealth. That starts with raising wages, protecting union rights, and closing the tax loopholes that let billionaires and multinational corporations off the hook while working people foot the bill. It also means ensuring that jobs come with good benefits, secure retirement, and predictable schedules so people can plan their lives. If you work hard, you should be able to build a good life, support your family, and retire with dignity. That’s not too much to ask. It should be the bare minimum.

Fair Wages and Stronger Worker Rights

I strongly support a single-payer Medicare-for-All proposal for all Americans. Healthcare is an issue that Democrats have fought for years to strengthen. As Republicans try to gut what little relief the government provides for healthcare through subsidies, Democrats need to counter by taking a bold position that guarantees adequate healthcare to every single American.&nbsp;While the Affordable Care Act made great strides, working people understand how much further we must go. It was progress, but deductibles are still too high and the care isn’t adequate enough. Countries that have a guaranteed healthcare system, whether it be single-payer or a public option, have cheaper rates and better results. America can do the same, but our politicians make a choice to put their corporate donors first. I will not stand for this in Hartford.

I’m running for State Senate because I’ve lived what so many people are going through: rising costs, broken promises, and leaders who seem completely out of touch. I’m not a career politician. I started my first business with a pickup truck and a plan I wrote in high school. I built HQ Dumpsters from the ground up, created jobs, and did what small business owners across Connecticut do every day: worked hard and kept going, even when the system made it harder than it needed to be.

Eventually, I had to sell that business. And I’ll be honest: it’s easier working for someone else now than it ever was working for myself. That says a lot about where things stand in this country.

In Hartford, I’ll focus on the basics: lowering costs, expanding access to childcare and housing, protecting Social Security, and making sure small businesses and working families actually have a fair shot.
